Airdrie's incumbent MP says he's ready to get on the campaign trail with the federal election less than five weeks away.

Conservative candidate Blake Richards officially signed and handed in his nomination papers Wednesday morning at the Elections Canada office beside Western RV.

Richards who is running in his fifth election said the number one focus for him is a pathway to recovery.

"We need to have a plan to recover from COVID, especially our economy. We have a good, solid plan called Canada's Recovery Plan to do just that, get people back to work and get things moving again. The other part is making sure people know that I will continue to do what I've always done which is stand up firm for our area and our province."
