On December 1st, Airdrie locals get the chance to see jolly old Santa Claus during the Santa Claus Parade that marches down Main Street.

Due to the holiday happiness marching its way through the streets of Airdrie, major road closures are expected.

Cream Lingerie owner Lynn Kehoe describes exactly where the parade will be traveling.

"We'll be using Main Street starting down at 6th Avenue where we would normally start the parade. It will come all the way down Main Street and turn again on Ridgegate Way."

This year the locals of Airdrie are being urged to take their time leaving the parade grounds after the event ends.

"The parade will start at 5 pm of course, but the roads will close at 4:30. We just wanted to make people aware this year that we will be adamantly not opening Main Street until thirty minutes after the parade is completely off Main Street," says Kehoe. "So we're just asking for people to have patience, take their time getting out of downtown, maybe go for dinner, go for a coffee and just enjoy the atmosphere of being downtown."

Despite all the Christmas joy, locals are reminded that their will still be a lane remaining open to allow ambulances to travel to the Airdrie Urgent Care Centre.

"Basically, (on) Main Steet, there is one lane that will be used for the emergency lane that stays open through the entire parade and municipal enforcement will be at either end of that lane ensuring that the ambulance can get through and that they have a safe passage through."

Main Street itself has been seeing its fair share of construction this year with several lanes currently closed in front of Shoppers Drug Mart. However, Kehoe puts construction worries to rest.

"The road should be open on Main Street where the construction is happening. Even if it isn't, we will still make it work. (Despite) the road closure in front of Shoppers Drug Mart, we'll still be fine."
