Airdrie RCMP responded to two collisions involving eight cars on Saturday afternoon. Police believe though it is early in the investigation a medical issue may have contributed to the incident.

"[The] initial investigation has revealed that a vehicle travelling at high-speed Eastbound on Yankee Valley Boulevard struck two vehicles flipping one over," RCMP stated.

The vehicle continued Eastbound until it struck five additional vehicles stopped at the intersection at 8 Street.

"As a result of the collision, two individuals were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the offending vehicle was taken to hospital with serious injuries."

RCMP remained on the scene for three hours investigating and assisting with clean up. Additional details regarding those involved are not available at this time.
