RCMP are hoping to identify a male and female suspect connected to an armed robbery Friday afternoon in Airdrie.

Cst. Jason Curtis with Airdrie RCMP says the suspects entered the One Stop Smoke Shop in Airdrie around 4:45 pm on Friday, September 11th.

"The female was armed with a firearm - demanded the clerk open the cash register. Rigthly so, the clerk complied with the suspects demands and the suspect stole an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes."

Caught on video surveillance, Curtis says the suspects fled the business in an easy-to-notice vehicle.

"Got into a dark grey Chevrolet HHR, it's a very unique vehicle and looks almost like a PT cruiser."

The male suspect is described as a Caucasian in his 20's with slim build, wearing a black ball cap, orange sunglasses, a black hoodie, blue jeans and a black shirt with white designs.

RCMP also gave a description of the female suspect after getting a good look on the businesses' video surveillance.

"She's Caucasian, in her 20's. She's about 5'4" to 5'6", she's got a stout but not stocky build, she has dark brown hair that appeared to be in a ponytail under the hoodie and was wearing dark sunglasses and a black hoodie."

Curtis says that armed robberies are uncommon in Airdrie and that and armed robbery in the middle of the afternoon is rare and concerning.

"We want people to understand to be vigilant," adds Curtis. "When faced with any type of violence, especially with a weapon, just comply with demands and contact police as soon as safely possible."
