A 35-year-old Calgary resident was pronounced deceased at the scene of an early morning two-vehicle car collision near Canmore on Sunday, January 15.

"At 07:08 a.m., Canmore RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 1A, four kilometres South of Canmore. Upon arrival, one of the drivers, a 35-year-old male  Calgary resident, was deceased," a police statement read.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 54-year-old male resident of Exshaw, was taken to the hospital with non-serious injuries.

Officers remained on the scene for several hours while they investigated the collision. The highway is now open. RCMP continue the investigation into the cause of this tragic event.
