The Legislative Assembly Standing Committee is seeking the public's feedback on Alberta's current Personal Information Protection Act or PIPA.

PIPA is aimed at protecting the personal information of customers, clients and employees held by private-sector organizations, businesses, and in some instances, non-profit organizations.

The committee is conducting a comprehensive review of the current act and is looking to the public to determine whether or not any amendments are needed at this time.

"Albertans are our most important stakeholders, and the Personal Information Protection Act can affect their daily activities," said Ricardo Miranda, Committee Chair and MLA for Calgary-Cross in a press release.

With a large number of small businesses and private sector organizations in Airdrie, PIPA currently effects all Airdronians.

Miranda said that input from the public is a key factor during this review, urging all Albertans to participate in the process and let the committee know what they think.

Instructions on how to send in a written submission, along with an in depth guide can be found on the Committee page of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta website.

Submissions must be received no later than February 26th, 2016.
