If you're a home owner in Airdrie, your 2014 property assessment was mailed out by the City, January 28. You may notice your home is worth more this year than last.

Overall residential property values increased 4.7% in Airdrie. According to the City's Assessment department, part of the reason for the increase is the number of taxable properties in the city, which rose by 9.12%.

Assessment Team Leader Larry Laverty says increases in assessed values can be directly attributed to the growth in the city.

Airdrie's population grew by 8.42% in 2013, and the city remains one of the fastest growing communities in the country.

Residents have until March 28 to file an appeal if they are unhappy with or have questions about their assessment. Laverty encourages you to phone the assessment department at 403.948.8855 before filing an appeal to speak with an assessor.

Final tax notices will be mailed out May 30.
