Rocky View County (RVC) is looking for their next recipient for the 2024 Master Farm Family Award.

Rocky View County ranching or farming families that demonstrate exceptional community service, involvement in the agricultural business and industry, team farm management, and technical farm productivity and sustainability approaches have been awarded this accolade by the County since 1989.

Nominations for this year's prize can be submitted to the county's Agricultural Service Board until February 28 where applications will be reviewed at a later date.

Tracy Hanson and Earl Munro, owners of Long Acre Ranch Ltd. are fourth-generation cattle ranchers in the county's Yankee Valley, and they are the 2023 recent winners of the esteemed Master Farm Family Award.

According to RVS, Long Acre Ranch Ltd. has roots dating back to 1913 when Tracy’s great-grandparents immigrated from Sweden. In 1947, Helmer and Mae Hanson purchased the section of land bordering Graeme Dam, part of the Western Irrigation District.

In order to construct the East Balzac Water Treatment Plant, which provides water to the East Balzac developments and Cross Iron Mall, RVC recently acquired a portion of the Long Acre Ranch.

The 2024 winner will be announced at the county's Farm Tour in the summer.
