Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for the Airdrie area.

Freezing rain is expected to develop Saturday morning. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.

The freezing rain warning is in effect for:

  • Airdrie
  • Cochrane
  • Olds
  • Sundre

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.

"Be prepared to adjust your driving to changing road conditions. Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces."

Conditions will improve in the afternoon as temperatures rise above zero degrees Celsius.
