UPDATE:

Airdrie RCMP report that all lanes of the QEII are open and traffic flow has normalized in the northbound lanes of Highway 2 south of the Highway 72 overpass.

Police continue to investigate a collision involving a police vehicle and a van on the highway near Crossfield.

RCMP ask you to continue to use caution when travelling through the area as Airdrie RCMP, the QEII Traffic Unit, and the RCMP Collision Reconstruction Unit remain at the scene investigating the collision.

An adult male was taken into custody as a result of the incident and charges are pending.

An update will be provided once more details are known.

 

ORIGINAL STORY:

Emergency crews are on scene of a collision between a police vehicle and van on the QEII near Crossfield.

It's believed the collision happened Wednesday morning at around 8:30 a.m.

Airdrie RCMP and the QEII Traffic Unit are expected to be on scene for the next several hours to investigate the crash.

Delays are expected as northbound traffic on Highway 2 just south of the Highway 72 overpass has been reduced to one lane.

The driver of the van has been taken to hospital with minor injuries while the RCMP officer who was driving the cruiser was assessed on scene by EMS.

RCMP will release more details as they become available.
