According to Parks Alberta, the Kananaskis Country Public Safety Team has responded to many incidents caused by unreliable information from the crowd-sourced application AllTrails.

"While AllTrails can contain useful photos and reports of current trail conditions, you should never rely solely on the app to plan your trip."

Parks Alberta recommends that anyone heading out for a hike read the proper guidebooks, look at satellite images, as well as take time to study Gem Trek Maps, which publishes the most accurate and up-to-date Canadian Rockies hiking and driving maps. It should also be noted that cell service may be spotty or completely unavailable in many parks.

"Check official trail reports on AlbertaParks.ca before you go and always carry a map and a satellite messenger."
