While the focus lately has been on the new kids playing for the Edmonton Oilers, heading into their tilt with the Calgary Flames tonight, it was a pair of old dogs that got the job done last night for the team.

Ryan Smyth got the game winner, and Shawn Horcoff dished out 3 assists as the Oilers downed the Nashville Predators 3-1 Monday night.

Tonight, they head down highway 2 for the first installment of the Battle of Alberta, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins Pro Saddledome debut. Oiler Head Coach Tom Renny likes what he's seeing from his first and second year players, but knows it's the vets that have to step up from time to time.

The Oilers are now 2-1-1 heading into tonights game against the Flames, who sit with a 1-3-0 record. Last year, Calgary went 5-1 against Edmonton, out scoring them 23-17.

Brendon Morrison could play for the Flames tonight, but will likely be a game time decision.
