You would think that giving up the first goal in back-to-back games might not turn out that well for the Edmonton Oil Kings.

On Friday night Edmonton surrendered the first two goals of the game to the Red Deer Rebels then came back with nine straight for a 9 - 2 victory.

Yesterday (April 3) in Edmonton, Red Deer once again scored the first goal of the game just past the five-minute mark of the first, then Edmonton stormed back once again, scoring the next five in a row to take a 5 - 1 win and their 11th victory against just one loss this season.

Two of those five goals were set up by Airdrie's Jake Neighbours, something the first-round draft pick of the NHL's St. Louis Blues has been doing a lot of this season.  Neighbours now has 16 assists to lead the Western Hockey League (WHL) in that department.

Keagan Slaney of Airdrie was back in the Oil Kings lineup after missing Friday's game and had a strong outing, going plus one with three shots on goal from his point position.

The game between the Medicine Hat Tigers and Tristan Zandee of Airdrie and the Calgary Hitmen was a high-scoring affair that went to overtime before the Tigers prevailed 6 - 5.

Zandee picked up an assist on one of the Hitmen's goals and he now has eight points in 13 games in his rookie WHL year.  Calgary is 5 - 6 - 2 this year.

Another Airdrie rookie, Josh Davies, was held off the score sheet by the Prince Albert Raiders and his Swift Current Broncos fell 4 - 2 to PA.  Davies was minus one in the game with three shots on goals as the Broncos record dropped to 3 - 8 - 1.

In other WHL games yesterday, the Winnipeg Ice stopped the Regina Pats 5 - 2.  It was the Tri-City Americans getting by the Spokane Chiefs 3 - 2 in another contest that went to OT.  The Everett Silvertip stopped the Portland Winter Hawks 4 - 1 and the Kamloops Blazers edged the Victoria Royals 4 - 3 in the third overtime game of the day.
