Airdrie’s Jake Neighbours and the Edmonton Oil Kings were in Saskatchewan for an away game last night in the Western Hockey League. Fellow Airdrie player Kegan Slaney was not on the roster for the Oil Kings.

The Oil Kings played the Moose Jaw Warriors at Mosaic Place in Moose Jaw.

It was an exciting back and forth game with Edmonton tying it all up with less than a minute left on the clock. The Oil Kings pulled their goalie in favour of an extra attacker and tied the game, 3-3, with just 41 seconds remaining. The goal from Liam Keller sent the game into overtime.

It was a short-lived celebration for the Oil Kings however, as the Warriors went on the attack quickly and scored a goal to end OT and take the win 4-3.

Despite the loss, Neighbours is likely still celebrating a big announcement. The former Airdrie hockey player was included in the NHL Central Scouting Draft of players to watch for ahead of the 2020 draft. He received a ‘B’ rating as a projected 2nd or 3rd round candidate.

In other WHL action Wednesday night, Airdrie’s Gary Haden had one shot on net playing for the Victoria Royals. The Royals were defeated 4-3 by the Everett Silvertips.

The Swift Current Broncos and Airdrie's Brandon Machado took on the Portland Winterhawks. Portland took the win 8-2.
