Airdrie resident Erik Pedersen has committed with the Michigan Technological University Huskies.

The 20-year-old forward spent his last season with the Whitecourt Wolverines, putting up a team leading 68 points.

"I thought I'd make the decision after the season when I wasn't focusing on hockey, I could just pick and do some research on where I wanna go, and at the end of the season Michigan Tech was the number one on my list." said Pedersen.

Playing in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), the Huskies are 3 time NCAA champions, and 7 time WCHA champions.

Due to be somewhat of a "late bloomer" in his junior career, Pedersen hopes to impress coaching staff.

"I think I will bring a lot of speed and work ethic, and just try and go out there and earn my ice time and the trust of the coach, and play some good hockey."

When it came to choosing his next team, Pedersen had no difficulty saying yes to the Huskies.

"I really like the style of play of the hockey team, the community involvement, how its just a big community that love hockey," said Pederson. "The coaching staff there was amazing and it was just an easy decision."

Pedersen will head down to Michigan on Friday, August 19th.
