A press conference was held today in Airdrie for the Mid-sized Cities Mayors Caucus, and a lot of unanswered questions will be answered on Friday.

Out of the 24 Mayors that were attending, Cochrane Mayor Jeff Genung was the most prevalent speaker during the press conference, stating the group has identified its major priorities as intergovernmental affairs, community safety and wellness, capital funding, and health care.

Today’s topics mainly focused on the new government, Premier Danielle Smith, and the new cabinet shuffle that's happening tomorrow.

After tomorrow morning's announcement of cabinet changes, they will be able to identify who they will need to work with when it comes to each topic.

When a question was brought up about working with the new Premier of Alberta, Genung said they don’t foresee any complications.

“We would really like to position ourselves as partners with the province and work on the issues together. Right now, the government is changing and we're just trying to pivot and change along with it.”

“We want to work with the new government," said Genung. "This is a group that is not adversarial, we're not just looking for a handout for more money or more funding and more resources. We want to work together.”

Airdrie Mayor Peter Brown says it's time for these cities to have their voices heard as they make up 25 per cent of Alberta’s population. He says it's time for these cities to get the help that is needed to deal with their exponential growth.

Mid-sized cities are those urban municipalities with a population greater than 15,000 people.
