Mountain View County (MVC) officials have noticed an uptick in visitors to certain parts of the County, just northwest of Airdrie, in which photographers and nature-lovers are flocking to; and with the interest, come crowds.

"It has come to our attention that the Winchell Lake area has become a popular spot for owl photography, attracting many bird enthusiasts. While we are delighted to share the natural charm of our region, we kindly ask for your cooperation in preserving the sanctity of private properties," a notice from the county's website stated.

Christofer Atchison, Director of Legislative, Community and Agriculutural Service with MVC said that the reminder has not been prompted by any particularly troubling incidents, rather, than notice is a gentle reminder to those visiting the county.

"We've definitely seen an increase in tourism, photo tourism; individuals travelling out to the area to photograph some wildlife. The area is quite hilly, there aren't very great shoulders and we do see motorists parking on the side of the roadway, which has raised safety concerns but no specific incident," he said.

MVC is asking that those who are travelling to the area to park responsibly, especially at Winchell Lake.

"By parking directly at the lake and walking in, you not only ensure your safety but also demonstrate respect for the local community and their private spaces. We would like to bring to your attention that the majority of lands within the County are privately owned. It is essential to exercise caution and ensure that the lands you are accessing are indeed public property or that you have obtained previous permission from the landowner for access."

There are also several other recreational parks in Mountain View County. These include Westward Ho Campground, Water Valley Campground, and Day Use Parks, including Bagnall, Hillers Dam, Davidson, and Winchell Lake.
