With Inflation being a significant concern for all Albertans, the provincial government of Alberta will implement a 13-cent provincial fuel tax suspension in the new year, to help Albertans save a little bit of money at the pumps.

Premier Danielle Smith's made the announcement while addressing her Inflation Relief Act, which is meant to help curb the increase in the cost of living and tackle inflation, we now have some more information about what that entails.

Currently, we are seeing a 4.5 cent per litre provincial fuel tax added on to gas prices, but once January comes around, that will change. Starting in January and lasting until June 30, 2023, regardless of oil prices, the entire 13-cent provincial fuel tax on gasoline and diesel will be suspended.

After June 2023, fuel tax relief will continue to be reviewed on a quarterly basis. If average oil prices are above $80 per barrel, the fuel tax relief will be extended or reinstated in stages.

If the current prices were to stay where they are in Airdrie, $129.9 for regular and $189.9 for diesel, with the removal of the fuel tax, it would look like $116.9 for regular and $176.9 for diesel.
