Airdrie RCMP has confirmed that one youth suspect was arrested and will be charged with assault with a weapon and mischief following an incident at George McDougall High School on Friday.

According to an email that was sent by the administration to parents and guardians of students at the high school, it was alleged that a group of students were driving around the student parking lot and other neighbouring streets during the lunch break, shooting at students and vehicles with gel pellets.

An apparent screenshot of the letter was circulated on local social media groups. The letter also stated that police were notified and the individuals were apprehended. Police confirmed no injuries were sustained.

According to the Rocky View Schools Student Code of Conduct document, students are prohibited from engaging in unacceptable behaviour, whether or not it occurs within the school building, on school grounds, off school grounds on an approved school-related activity, on the school bus, during the school day or by electronic means.

"Examples of such behaviours include, but are not limited to [the] use, possession of, sale, distribution of or active contact with, a weapon on a student’s person, in a student’s locker or desk, on Rocky View Schools property, or in a vehicle on Rocky View Schools property used by a student or occupied by a student as a passenger."
