Election day is coming up on Monday October 21st and if you haven’t voted at the advance polls or by other methods it will be your last chance to cast a ballot.

If you’re undecided or just haven’t had a chance to hear from the local candidates yet we’re doing profile pieces on them this week.

We’ve asked those running in the Banff-Airdrie riding to include a write up of who they are and tell us what they believe is the most important issue in the election.

Today we hear from Nadine Wellwood, the candidate for the People’s Party of Canada.

Biography:

I am Nadine Wellwood, Candidate for the People’s Party of Canada. I am not a politician but rather a small business owner for the last 25 + years. I own a small investment firm and hold a designation of Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) and Financial Planner. I have owned an Aerospace and Defence company, specializing in Modeling & Simulation and Human Factors Engineering. I also worked for the Department of National Defence where I managed multi-million dollar facilities and programs for our service men and women, our allies and their families.

I am running in this Federal Election because I have concerns regarding the direction career politicians are taking Canada. There is a lack of leadership in this country. Leadership requires courage and conviction and is about putting the rights and freedoms of all Canadians first before political self-interest. I believe that we can do better.

"What do you believe is the most important issue in this election, and how do you plan to address it?"

I believe that Pipelines are on most Albertan’s minds, but that pipelines are a symptom of a much larger issue; and that is… Alberta is being ignored.  Alberta has no path to develop its’ own natural resources because we lack leaders with the courage to do what is in the interest of all Canadians. Alberta continually suffers at the hands of traditional Political Parties (Liberal and Conservative) who pander to QC and ON for votes.

The People’s Party of Canada is the ONLY party that will use the full authority of the Federal Government (Sect. 92(10) of the Constitution) to BUILD pipelines and ensure the financial security and prosperity (not to mention the UNITY) of this province and Canada. We are the ONLY Party who will reform the UNFAIR formula used for Equalization Payments that sees almost $5200 for every man, woman and child, leave this Province for Quebec. We are the ONLY party with a PLAN to Balance the Budget in 2 years, while all the other parties try to outbid one another in campaign promises simply we promote fiscal responsibility. We are the ONLY party with a proposed tax reform that will reduce taxes for ALL Canadians, making life more affordable with no conditions attached.

Another issue for me personally has be Freedom of Expression. I believe that our Freedoms as Canadians are under attack. Political correctness and the proposal of what I see as very dangerous legislation puts at risk our ability to openly and honestly debate ideas and to challenge authority.  Media outlets filter, suppress or omit what we see in the news and spin their own bias; and there exists proposed legislation that infringes upon our speech, beliefs and ability to form our own opinions. Without the Freedom to our own thoughts and beliefs and the ability to speak about them openly we are no longer a Free Society. We are the ONLY Party to bring this issue to the forefront and challenge current proposed legislation.
