14 points in two games were more than enough for an Airdrie hockey player to get the league’s top honour of the week.

Jordan McConnell of the Airdrie Thunder was named the Heritage Junior Hockey League’s Player of The Week after his unbelievable performance in the opening two games of the season last weekend.

The 20-year-old had 4 goals and 4 assists in the Thunder’s 13-2 season opener against the Stettler Lightning.

He followed that up the next day with 3 goals and 3 assists in a 10-3 win for the Thunder over the Coaldale Copperheads.

While McConnell doesn’t expect to have monster games like that every time, he says he’ll do what he can to help the team succeed.

“I'd like to get as many points as I can and the organization is looking for a championship this year. That's the ultimate goal for everyone.”

McConnell will look for more points as the Thunder host the Blackfalds Wranglers tomorrow night (September 28th) at 8:00.
