The City of Airdrie has released a statement regarding the recent news that Airdrie's Urgent Care Centre will no longer be closed on the weekends.

The City said it was proud to see that their diligent efforts and concerns about the closures of the Airdrie Urgent Care Centre (AUCC) were quickly addressed by Alberta Health Services (AHS) and Alberta Health.

“I want to thank AHS staff, the Minister of Health, AUCC doctors and staff for their willingness to work with us to ensure urgent care health services are available to Airdrie and area residents,” says Mayor Peter Brown.

According to Alberta Health Service, the Urgent Care Centre (UCC) at the Airdrie Community Health Centre will resume 24/7 hours of operation on Friday, August 19th.

“Four new physicians have been recruited and will start work at the Airdrie Urgent Care Centre in the coming weeks with recruitment efforts continuing to bring on more physicians,” says Dr. Charles Wong, Medical Lead, Urgent Care, Calgary Zone. “These new physician recruits will provide ongoing support and allow us to return to 24/7 urgent care services in Airdrie.”

Additionally, over one million dollars in new funding will add staffing and three new care spaces to further improve and enhance urgent care services in Airdrie.

"This step forward will help address the community’s most immediate needs. Through direct meetings with AHS, Alberta Health and Minister Copping, City Council will continue to work together and Council will continue to advocate for much-needed funds to help doctors and staff at AUCC meet the needs of the more than 140 patients they serve each and every day," a city press release stated,

“As always, we want to sincerely thank our doctors, nurses, administrators and all health professionals for the work they do every day to support all the communities that access AUCC," added Mayor Brown.
