A man has been granted bail after being charged with arson in an Airdrie house fire.

Curtis James Belcourt a 33-year-old resident of Medicine Hat, has been charged with Arson in relation to an April 11 residential fire in the Kings Heights Neighbourhood of Airdrie.

According to RCMP, Belcourt has been charged with the following offences:

  • Arson (endangering life)
  • Break and Enter
  • Arson (property damage)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance

After setting fire to the house he allegedly broke into the home around 3 a.m. Airdrie RCMP officers were able to arrest the man shortly after.

According to the Airdrie Fire Department, no injuries occurred in the fire yet the home sustained significant damage on the exterior.

At Monday's bail hearing, Belcourt was granted bail. His next court appearance is on May 30 for Election and Plea in Airdrie Provincial Court at 9 a.m.
