The suspect is now in custody after robbing two young Airdronians while they were in the parking lot at the Town and Country Center on Sunday night around 10 pm.

Corporal Troy Savinkoff with the RCMP shares they received a call Monday afternoon.

“At about 2:15pm on March 28, we received a call of a robbery at the Town and Country Center. Our victims, who are fairly young, reported that they were sitting in a vehicle when they were approached by an individual who had a machete and ended up stealing from them. Fortunately, we were able to identify who the suspect is in a very short amount of time, and the RCMP has arrested a 17-year-old Airdrie resident.”

The suspect is currently in custody and the charges are still pending. Savinkoff says there is a chance he could be released once he is charged.

“We have to look to see if there would be danger to the public, could the person commit further offences or fail to appear in court. Looking at those three different categories we would make an argument regarding his release, and ultimately based on law, the justice will decide if he'll be released pending court.”

Savinkoff finished off by saying this investigation is a bit odd and not typical to begin with. The suspect doesn't appear to have been motivated by any monetary reasoning and there is no indication as of right now to say there was a relationship between the suspect and victims.
