The nominations keep piling up for the locally shot series, The Last of Us.

Last week, the show was nominated for four Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG) on Saturday, February 24. The awards show will be available on Netflix.

Here is what they were nominated for:

  • Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series - Pedro Pascal
  • Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series - Bella Ramsey
  • Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series
  • Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series

 The award show was founded in 1995 to recognize outstanding performances in movies and prime-time television.

Last Sunday,  the 81st Golden Globes took place, The Last of Us was nominated for three awards but unfortunately did not win any.

The hit series was filmed in the area around Airdrie. More than 180 Alberta locations were utilized in the filming of the first season.

The night before the Golden Globes on Saturday, The Last of Us walked away with eight awards during the 75th Creative Arts Emmy Awards, those include:

  • Outstanding prosthetic makeup
  • Outstanding special visual effects in a season or a movie
  • Outstanding main title design
  • Outstanding sound editing for a comedy or drama series (one hour)
  • Outstanding sound mixing for a comedy or drama series (one hour)
  • Outstanding picture editing for a drama series
  • Outstanding guest actress in a drama series (Storm Reid as Riley Abel)
  • Outstanding guest actor in a drama series (Nick Offerman as Bill)

While the show has been renewed for a second season and will continue to be filmed in Canada, filming will take place in neighbouring British Columbia.

The show, based on the 2013 video game, premiered on January 15, to nearly 5 million viewers.  

Oxford Economics calculated that 'expenditure by the production of Season One of The Last of Us stimulated over $182 million of contribution to Alberta’s GDP from 2021-2022.'
