The Western Hockey League (WHL) season has come to a close for many local players including two with the Price George Cougars.

The Cougars wrapped up their season Wednesday night with a 4-0 loss against the Kamloops Blazers.

For former Airdrie Xtreme players Craig Armstrong and Jaren Brinson, it was a different season with COVID protocols, lockdowns and no playoffs for the second straight year, not to mention, no fans in the stands.

"At the start, it was definitely weird," said Brinson. "The building holds 6,000 plus fans and you're used to the energy and all the fans. At the start, we had to get used to it but we definitely felt the support of the fans."

"You can definitely notice it when you're on the ice and you don't hear fans cheering and fans going crazy," added Armstrong. "It definitely impacts the game and your momentum."

m like every day was repetitive."

Both players are already looking forward to getting back into the rink and training for next season.

The WHL returned to play in February with a 24 game schedule but last month cancelled the playoffs for the second consecutive year.
