Airdrie-Banff Member of Parliament, Blake Richards, is not too happy to see the new rules put in place by the Federal Government.

New rules introduced on May 11 will require people and businesses selling non-restricted firearms to confirm the identity and firearms license of buyers, as well as to keep inventory and sales records. The new regulations will go into effect on May 18.

A report from Richards about these rules mentions gun crime and what the Liberal Government has done over the years about it.

“They have persistently eased the criminal penalties for gun smuggling and illegal gun possession throughout their time in office. By voting against Bill C-238, this government opposed tougher sentences for gun smuggling and the possession of illegal firearms. By pushing through Bill C-5, they are trying to remove required jail times for major firearms offences. Instead, their 'solution' has been to attack responsible, legal firearms owners.”

Richards says responsible gun owners have completed firearms safety courses, taken exams, and passed thorough background checks in order to prove that they are capable of owning and handling firearms safely and responsibly.

“They use their firearms to feed their families and continue long-standing traditions by hunting. Others own firearms to protect their farms and livestock. Some rural Canadians need to carry firearms for protection against predators they might encounter in the wilderness.”

These are important and often necessary activities for many Canadians, says Richards, the Liberals have added insult to injury by announcing the re-introduction of the Long-Gun Registry.

“Trudeau's anti-firearm policies are not designed to fight gun crime or ensure public safety. His attacks on legal gun owners are fear-mongering attempts to win political points from progressive radicals who don't understand firearms to begin with.”

Richards finished off by stating the Conservatives will continue to fight for Canada's firearm owners, and against irrational policies like the Long-Gun Registry.
