Fitzsimmons Brewing Company is closing its doors at the end of April.

The first microbrewing company in Airdrie (which opened its doors in 2017) took to social media earlier this week to announce that April 29 will be the final hoorah.

Cody Fitzsimmons, the President and owner of the company talked about why the decision was made to close down after five and a half years.

"There was a combination of a lot of things that led to our final decision, and ultimately, moving on to other new opportunities. We're pretty excited for what the future has in store."

Looking back on the history of the company, hosting all of the fun events like comedy nights and open mic were some of the highlights for Fitzsimmons.

"For me, it's all the people that I've met through the brewery, people who just come to the tap room that now I consider them to be friends. I'm really happy with the community that has supported us and the new community that we were able to create here."

For Fitzsimmons, although the doors are closing he will be continuing in the alcohol business.

"I know that we were developing some products that were not beer related. Our seltzers were definitely one of them. I'm going to be splitting off and just continuing to develop new products into the Alberta markets along those lines."

He feels like there is a real opportunity to create new, interesting and exciting products as that's where his heart has been shifting towards.

Fitzsimmons Brewing Company received a lot of awards but when asked if he could pick out one that really stuck out to him, it was an award received for East Lake Amber Ale as it gave them legitimacy, explained Fitzsimmons.

"That was a really neat thing, especially being a new business and a new industry in Airdrie."

Even though April 29 is the final day, they will be hosting their five-year anniversary party at the end of March.

Fitzsimmons finished off by saying he is incredibly thankful for everybody that has come out and supported the business.
