Today, a cheque was presented to the Alberta Children's Hospital from the grade four and five students at A.E. Bowers Elementary School.

The two grades fundraised $1,509 in five days for the hospital from their Love Lollies fundraiser during Valentine's. Jocelyn Littlefair, the principal of the school talked about how ecstatic she is about the results of the fundraiser.

"'I'm so so proud of their initiative and taking action; it was a wonderful thing to see. They're wonderful citizens in the making."

Littlefair talked about how it was the student's idea to do a fundraiser like this, to help those in the hospital, by selling lollipops for $1 each.

"One of the children has an auntie who works at the hospital and sometimes the auntie comes home and shares some stories of what children are dealing with. So, this student thought that it would be a wonderful thing to try to bring a little bit of joy to the children when they're going through a hard time."

Littlefair also wanted to extend a thank you to all the parent volunteers who also helped out with the fundraiser.

"Every day in my position, it really warms my heart to see how kind children can be towards each other, and how attuned they are to the world around them."

When it comes to next year and possibly doing the fundraiser once again, Littlefair stated it will all be up to the students.

"If there are student leaders who are interested in taking on the heavy lifting again - absolutely."
