An Airdrie man has been sentenced to 30 months behind bars following a theft at Swedish Jewellers International back in April, 2015.

RCMP investigations found that 32 year old William Hazelwanter was responsible for theft and appeared in Airdrie Provincial Court Monday to answer to his charges.

Police say Hazelwanter was armed with a crowbar when he entered the Swedish Jewellery Store on Main Street back on April 20th, demanding that the staff fill a duffle bag with a large amount of jewellery.

The Airdrie man fled the scene before police arrived but was later identified, arrested and charged.

Hazelwanter plead guilty to his charge of robbery with an offensive weapon and as a result of his plea, was sentenced to 30 months in prison.

Airdrie RCMP are thanking the public for working with investigators and providing tips that lead up to the identification of Hazelwanter as the primary person responsible for the crime.
