If there was ever any doubt that Jake Vold of Airdrie could come back from the knee injury that ended his 2017 season at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, he is taking an eraser to those doubts.

After more than five months of surgery and rehab, Vold returned to competition at the end of May and, although it took a while for him to get going, won the bareback riding at the Sundre Rodeo last weekend.  The win seemed to kick-start the season for Vold who is now riding well.

During Friday afternoon's (June 29) performance at the Ponoka Stampede, Vold spurred his way to an incredible 88 and 3/4 points aboard the horse Not Crystal to grab the lead which he still holds after five performances.

There is one more performance at Ponoka before tomorrow afternoon's finals and the Stampede Showdown tomorrow evening.

Vold also marked 80 points in his ride Friday night at the Airdrie Pro Rodeo putting him in a tie for fourth spot after three performances.

Two more days of the Airdrie Pro Rodeo are scheduled for today and tomorrow afternoon.  The Junior Rodeo goes at 2:00 pm with the pros out at 3:00 pm both days.
