Airdrie City Council has decided to allow the Alberta Train Model Engineering Society to continue occupying the site they now enjoy, which has become a popular attraction for residents. Iron Horse Park will remain in its location just east of 8th Street for possibly the next decade, taking the park beyond its current 2017 contract. Tracy Corbett, manager of planning and sustainable development with the City says the volunteer staff at Iron Horse were happy with Council's decision.

Corbett says if there is a move in the years ahead, the lease extension will allow the City to find them a better location.

Corbett stressed the contribution the engineering society has made to the community, as a well-used and valuable amenity in Airdrie, engaging a significant amount of volunteer activity.
