A low impact sport that allows your creativity to flow is starting to pick up interest in Airdrie.

Over the summer, there is a group called the Airdrie Hoopers that meet-up on Tuesday nights to enjoy hoola hooping together in local parks.

Kelly Janes, Owner and Instructor of Hoop Di Do, joins the groups, as well as offers Hoola Hoop lessons at Genesis Place from September until June.

Janes fell in love with the hoola hoop at a music festival many years ago and was inpired to try it herself.

"It was was my first kind of big music festival and I had never seen people using hoola hoops like that, you know big hoola hoops and adults."

For Janes, she always loved to move and dance and after coaxing by a friend she decided to give it a try.

The hoola hoops that Janes had found at local retailers just weren't the same as the ones she had seen at the music festival, so she decided she was going to make her own.

"I went to the hardware store and went to the plumbing section and the guys looked at me strange but they helped me anyways."

Janes now sells her hoola hoops on her website www.hoop-di-do.com.

Hoola hooping can be done from your head to your toes and is a great low impact workout.

"It's just such a wonderful way to exercise. Your building your cordination, your toning your muscles, it's low impact and it's social."
