The Hamlets at Cedarwood Station are hosting 'Hobbies from the heart' on Saturday, February 13th.

This is the first year for the event, which will include hobbyist's with a vast array of skills and levels of expertise.

Sue Baggaley, the Activities Coordinator at the Hamlets came up with the idea to try to get more seniors participating in activities beyond the usual exercise programs.

Gardening is one activity that Baggaley identified as being a great exercise for the seniors, and it was something many of the them did growing up which is why she wants to fundraise to build a garden for the group.

"The seniors can grow vegetables and flowers out there, they are going to be built so that people with all variety of abilities will be able to use them, whether they are in wheel chairs, walkers or mobile."

Baked goods and cook books with recipes submitted by the residents will be available for purchase as part of the fundraiser to build the new garden.

Dave Downs, from Airdrie Modelers Air Craft Society will be bringing in a variety of planes and drones that he will demonstrate as well as Rodney Rodman, a member of the Calgary Model Railroad Society (CMRS), who will be bringing some model trains.

The other hobby's that will be highlighted are wood carving, leather carving, quilting, lego, stamps, painting, doll furniture and crocheting.

Admission is free as the event run from 1:30 to 3:30 pm.
