Today many children will take to the streets for some good old fashioned trick or treating.

With the increase of children on roadways and sidewalks it's important to be aware of pedestrians.

Cpl. Gina Slaney with the Airdrie RCMP says the detachment is encouraging people to be good pedestrians.

"Make sure you follow the rules of the road, there are still going to be traffic out and about and hopefully people will slow down and be aware there are kids running across the streets"

Slaney also says it's important to inspect the kid's candy prior to them eating it.

"We know there are bad people out there that do bad things and it would be tragic if a child ate something they should not eat."

All Airdrie RCMP members that are scheduled to work will be out and will be making sure everyone is being safe out there.
