A property in Rocky View County has been shut down by Alberta Health Services (AHS) after a health inspection found, among other things, garbage bags stacked to the ceiling and a lack of potable water.

The closure order was issued on April 25 and is posted on the Calgary Zone Health Enforcement Orders website. The address is 242089 Range Road 32, which appears to be in West Rocky View County.

It lists a plethora of health violations that, '... Are or may become injurious or dangerous to the public health or which might hinder in any manner the prevention or suppression of disease.'

Violations included no access to a flush toilet, access to wash basins, or any form of bathing facilities as it was blocked by accumulated debris and garbage bags stacked to the ceiling.

"The living area was extremely cluttered with garbage bags, waste building material, personal belongings, shelves, and cardboard boxes. The window space beside the entry door was left unfinished, missing the window casing and window. The open space was covered with plastic tarping and exterior siding material. Foundation materials were exposed."

The AHS inspection also noted that there were no plumbed fixtures available to access running water for drinking, bathing, or cooking purposes.

"Tenant was collecting the water from the pressure tank directly located in the basement area," AHS stated in its order.

The inspection also cited that the potability of the water system could not be verified and that there was no hot water supply to the home. AHS also noted there were no kitchen facilities available, and that some of the light fixtures in the bedroom, living area and entryway were missing, and not in good working condition, including exposed wires in the house. There was also no smoke alarm near the bedroom on the main floor.

According to the AHS document, the occupants of the property have until the end of the month to vacate the property and the property owner must, 'immediately undertake and diligently pursue the completion' of a myriad of tasks including, ensuring the bedroom window is accessible and openable without the use of tools or special knowledge, as well as removing cluttering and accumulation of garbage bags, waste building material, personal belongings, shelves, and boxes throughout the dwelling.

The owner has also been ordered to eliminate physical hazards on the front deck including rotting materials, loose boards, and popping nails, and repair and rebuild the front deck.

Earlier this month, AHS also shuttered an Airdrie food establishment in the city's southwest after it was revealed it did not have a proper food permit
