Gallery: Pete Knight Days: Crossfield's timeless tradition

For the 46th season, Crossfield's beloved annual Pete Knight Days took place. The celebration began on Friday, and continued into the weekend, with the parade on Saturday.

Residents, young and old, lined the streets of Crossfield, eager to catch a glimpse of the parade floats that made their way down the main roads of Crossfield. Lani McLeod, who is the Executive Director of the Crossfield Chamber of Commerce said that the event is a main staple for the area.

"It's something that is known around Crossfield and the surrounding area and something that residents look forward to," she said. "I have been a lifelong Crossfield resident; I have many memories of the parade. It's always a highlight for me. I love seeing the fun and excitement; the kids being so happy, and everyone out there [with their] lawn chairs. The community comes together!"

However, the celebrations will continue throughout the day:

12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.: Ag Society Farmer's Market Explore the Ag Society Farmer's Market at the Crossfield Community Centre. From fresh produce to handmade crafts, the market is a great place to support local vendors and find unique items.

All Day: Crossfield Slo Pitch Tournament Cheer on your favourite teams at the Crossfield Slo Pitch Tournament, taking place all day at McCaskill Park. The tournament begins at 9:00 a.m.

2:00 p.m.: Rodeo Ground Events The excitement continues at the Rodeo Grounds with the Rodeo Grand Entry kick-off at 2:00 p.m. Bring the kids for a variety of fun events from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., including games and activities tailored just for them.

6:30 p.m.: Lawn Tractor Racing Don’t miss the high-speed action of lawn tractor racing at 6:30 p.m. This unique and thrilling event is sure to be a crowd-pleaser.

9:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.: Dance Wrap up your Saturday with another dance from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Enjoy live music, dance with friends, and celebrate the end of a fantastic weekend.

Looking back on the Pete Knights celebrations throughout the years, McLeod says one memory stands out as her favourite.

"I remember a time when I was part of a Girl Guide ad we dressed up as Girl Guide cookies. That's something that I've always remembered."

Pete Knight, whom the celebrations are named after was a World Champion Rodeo Bronc Rider. Often dubbed as the 'King of the Cowboys' of the 1930s, he held various titles and accolades, including the World Champion Bronc Rider from 1932 till 1936. He was inducted into the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum by the Rodeo Hall of Fame in 1958.
