A little after 8 p.m., Rocky View County officials stated that a fire in Springbank - West Rocky View County - had been contained and extinguished.

"Fire crews will stay on-site throughout the evening to monitor for hot spots. Thank you to the Springbank community for your cooperation, it played a crucial role in our safe and effective response to this situation," county officials stated. 

Previously, officials said that due to the fire's location, which was on a forested hillside, ground efforts were challenging.

"... But air support was successfully used to prevent the spread. Fire protection remains in place for nearby homes."

According to the county, Rocky View County Fire Services and the RCMP are responding. Other departments, including the Calgary Fire Department, as well as the Redwood Meadows Fire Department, were also on the scene. 

"We extend our gratitude to Alberta Forest Protection Services and fire departments from Springbank, Bearspaw, Elbow Valley, Cochrane, Calgary, and Redwood Meadows for their collaborative efforts in controlling and extinguishing the fire," The County noted.

Cochrane Mounties also are on the scene.

"RCMP are asking motorists to avoid the area," police stated.

There is a fire ban in West and East Rocky View County due the the water main break in Calgary. A fire ban is also in effect in Calgary.
