On Friday evening, December 8, The Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC - formerly known as Canadian Pacific) holiday train will be stopping in Airdrie in support of the Airdrie Food Bank. 

The holiday train will arrive at 5:15 p.m. on the Main Street side of Nose Creek Park, East side of CP tracks, with the main event beginning at 5:45 p.m. until 6 p.m. This year's performers are the Canadian Band, Anyway Gang. Other stops in Alberta include Olds, Didsbury, Calgary, as well as Okotoks.

According to the Airdrie Food Bank, parking is unavailable at Nose Creek Park this year and is limited in the area.

"Getting to the event using the complimentary shuttle service from City Hall to Nose Creek Park or on foot, ridesharing or Airdrie Transit is recommended. Don't forget your non-perishable food donation!" the food bank's website stated.

Available parking is at the Kingdom City Church, A.E. Bowers School, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Airdrie transit shuttle service from City Hall to the Nose Creek Valley Museum will begin at 4:30 till 9 p.m. The last shuttle leaves Nose Creek Valley Museum at 9:00 p.m. 

Last year, the holiday train re-started the much beloved North American tour after several years of being on hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the Holiday Train program launched in 1999, it's raised $22.4 million and collected 5.15 million pounds of food. 

The holiday train is one of several more festive events that will be in Airdrie this December. Other holiday highlights include an old-fashioned skating party hosted by Nose Creek Valley Museum on December 9. 

"The Victorian Society of Alberta will be joining with Christmas Carols of days gone by. Bring the family from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m., along with your skates, or visit the Skate Shack onsite for free rentals," The Airdrie Festival of Lights Society stated on the website. 

The following week, on Friday, December 15, The Festival of Lights will be hosting Emergency Services Night, in which local first responders will be at Nose Creek Park.

As per the New Year, The City of Airdrie is planning to go ahead with its annual evening fireworks show on December 31. According to the city, a 15-minute firework display will be going ahead at 6:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve at Ed Eggerer Athletic Park. This is a free, family event.
