This year's Canada Day Parade Marshal has been announced and there will be four of them!

Four Airdronians who were a part of Team Alberta for the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games earlier this year will lead the pack at the July 1st parade. Evan, Luke, Brendan and Christian (last names withheld for confidentiality) were all a part of the bowling team and named the Parade Marshals.

Sue Farkas-Fillatre, the media relations coordinator with Airdrie Special Olympics stated their whole organization is proud of these athletes and the roles they will play.

"They'll be representing all of Special Olympics Airdrie and everything that they do. It's such a great honour for them."

Farkas-Fillatre stated the athletes are a little nervous about their new roles but are excited at the same time. Emmi, who is also with Airdrie Special Olympics as the athlete ambassador will be in the vehicle behind the marshals. The other athletes who want to participate are behind her.

"I'm so proud of our athletes and how far they have come to be out and about more in the public," stated Farkas-Fillatre. " I'm at a loss for words of how exciting it is for our organization."

Currently, Airdrie Special Olympics has all kinds of sports underway which include swimming, softball, golf, bocce ball and cornhole.
