A former Airdrie Xtreme player heard his name called during the NHL Draft this past weekend.

Goalie Talyn Boyko was taken in the fourth round of the draft by the New York Rangers, 112th overall.

Boyko spent one year with the Xtreme in the 2015-16 season, playing 17 games.

The Drumheller native then went on to the Pursuit of Excellence Program at the CSSHL before moving on to the WHL where he has played the past three seasons with the Tri-City Americans.

"I can’t explain the feeling of being selected by a franchise like the Rangers," said Boyko. "This is a huge honour. I am super excited for the opportunities ahead."
