For Airdrie Football player Bowen Lewis, it was a moment bigger than the Super Bowl and Grey Cup combined.

Lewis was a member of Team Canada who captured the Gold Medal at the U19 World Junior Championships of American Football in Harbin, China.

It wasn't an easy feat for Canada as they had to beat their continental rivals and defending Champions, the United States.

At the end of the game, Canada did just that, winning by a convincing score of 24-6.

It was an exhilarating match for Lewis, right down to the final seconds.

"I was almost in disbelief, it's such a great honor winning that championship, knowing that you're the champions of the world for a certain sport that you love. Like I said, I was in big disbelief "

Lewis and Canada lost only one game in the tournament, a preliminary match to the U-S-A.

"Coming into the game, we had a chip on our shoulders in a way because we wanted vengeance," said Lewis, "it just made it ten times better knowing that we beat the Americans at their own sport."

Lewis, who plays his college ball for the University of Saskatchewan says it's an enormous feat to win for both his country and the City of Airdrie.

"(It's not) always the big city kids who always can make a big difference, it can come from anywhere, talent comes from anywhere...anyone can dream big and can make those dreams happen."
