With the economic downturn, gas prices continue to rise and fall on a daily basis.

Over the past week, GasBuddy's daily survey of Alberta's gas stations revealed an average increase of 7 cents per litre, sitting around 72.20 cents per litre on Sunday.

Historically, prices have seen a huge fluctuation over the last five years.

On Febraury 22nd last year gas prices were 88.10 cents per litre, in 2014 gas was 111.50 cents per litre, while gas retailed at 111.26 cents per litre in 2013, 109.97 cents per litre in 2012, and 103.12 cents per litre back in 2011.

"Another unexpected and confusing rise and fall in crude prices within the same week puts gasoline on a daily roller coaster," said Dan McTeague, Senior Petroleum Analyst with GasBuddy. "Barring any unusual events, gasoline prices should continue their gentle fall by week's end."

McTeague predicts a 3 cent drop in gas by the end of the week in Calgary and the surrounding area, alongside the likes of Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, and interior British Columbia.
