The Calgary Flames kept their composure last night (March 27) to gain a much-needed win at the Saddledome.

The Flames took a 2 - 0 lead after the first period only to see the Winnipeg Jets come back with two of their own in the second to deadlock things heading into the third.

But Andrew Mangiapane put Calgary in front to stay with a goal just :49 seconds into the period and Sam Bennett got his fourth goal of the year later as the Flames downed the Jets 4 - 2, snapping a four-game winless slide.

Josh Leivo and Mark Giordano on the power play in the last minute of the first period staked the Flames to their lead before Mason Appleton and Logan Stanley, with his first NHL goal, tied things for Winnipeg.

Former Airdrie U15 player Dillon Dube didn't dress for the Flames who are now 16-17-3 on the season and are tied with the Vancouver Canucks for fifth place in the North with a game in hand.  Winnipeg's record fell to 21-12-2, good for second in the division.

The clubs wrap up their three-game set in Calgary Monday night.

The other Alberta team also let a two-goal lead get away from them last night but, unlike the Flames, didn't come back after they did.   The Toronto Maple Leafs erased a two-goal deficit in the third to force overtime where Auston Matthews scored early to give the Leafs a 4 - 3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.
