Flames Alumni showed up to support a great cause in Crossfield yesterday. Players like Sheldon Kennedy and Jeff Shantz laced up to play in a charity game against local celebs and politicos, with all the money raised going to make some much needed improvements to the Pete Knight Memorial Arena in town.

And there was a case of sibling rivalry going on as well - Team Red, led by Crossfield Mayor Nathan Anderson, took on Team White, led by MLA (and brother) Rob Anderson. Ultimately Team Red was triumphant, posting a 15 to 11 win.

While the final score wasn't important, the support was. Many of the Flames Alumni talked to our Rob Jamieson about why they come out to support causes like this. Kennedy had this to say:

Airdrie Mayor, Peter Brown, took some good natured ribbing from Lannie MacDonald, who, though he wasn't able to play in the game due to a previous committment, came out to support the cause anyway:

All kidding aside, those playing and in attendance showed great support for small town hockey. Mayor Nathan Anderson says he is pleased with how it turned out:

Anderson is hoping this turns into a more regular event in the future.
