Cochrane native, Justin Dowling, earned himself a call-up to the big leagues on Tuesday, October 25.

The call up to the Dallas Stars came after six of the teams forwards were out of the line-up due to injury and illness.

"For me to get a chance with this organization I was going to need for some guys to go down, which unfortunately you never want to see but that's kind of what had to happen for me to get a call up," said Dowling.

Dowling who has been playing for the AHL team the Texas Stars since 2012, was grateful but nervous for the opportunity to finally make it onto NHL ice.

"Getting a point in my first game was huge, it helped settle my nerves a little bit," said Dowling. "My first shift I was shaking in my boots a little bit but I got lucky that my first couple shifts I was able to handle the puck and get a feel for the game and get comfortable out there right away."

Dowling assisted Patrick Eaves earn a goal in the second period, giving Dallas the edge to win over the Winnipeg Jets 3-2.

Dowling is traveling to Winnipeg in hopes of getting his second opportunity to suit up for the Dallas Stars, but won't know if he will get an opportunity to play until game day.

"Obviously I am hoping to be in, and if I get the opportunity to I've got to try to roll with it here."
