Airdrie RCMP, as well as Airdrie Fire Department along with Rocky View County Fire Services, were on the scene of a structure fire off Highway 567, west of Airdrie in the Buffalo Rub neighbourhood. Near midnight crews began to clear the scene.

According to police, one adult was transported to the hospital for evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries.

Both police and fire crews had asked that the public to avoid the area while first responders worked to control the scene and the fire.

"Responders are expected to be at the scene for a long time considering the size of the fire. There is no current concern for public safety and no reason to suspect the fire will spread at this time."

According to Airdrie Fire Chief, Mike Pirie's social media post late on Saturday evening, the house fire is now considered a 'defensive fire' and will generate smoke, however, the occupants are safe.
