Rocky View County (RVC) has lifted the fire advisory for both east and west RVC.

Ken Hubbard, the Fire Chief for RVC, stated they lifted the advisory last week.

"In the last number of weeks, we have seen a downturn in temperatures, an increase in precipitation and we also saw wind conditions decrease. While also coming to the end of our harvest season, we've become more comfortable with removing our fire advisory."

Hubbard explained there is a chance a fire advisory could be put back in place and how they would determine if they needed to do just that.

"We routinely monitor weather conditions throughout the county and surrounding communities. We look at what the daytime temperatures are with respect to heat which can help or encourage wildfires. We also monitor precipitation and moisture levels."

Hubbard does want to remind residents to still be fire-safe as some areas of RVC are still dry.

Both Airdrie and Cochrane have not had a fire advisory in place for a few months.

With fire prevention week taking place October 8-14, each Fire Station in the County is hosting a public open house.

There are eight Rocky View County Fire Stations that will be open to the public on October 14, from 1-4 p.m., The fire stations include:

  • Madden
  • Irricana
  • Balzac
  • Langdon
  • Bearspaw
  • Elbow Valley
  • Springbank
  • Redwood Meadows/Bragg Creek

The theme this year for Fire Prevention is centred around cooking safety.
