The Festival of Trees fundraiser in support of the Airdrie Boys and Girls Club is currently underway.

The event kicked off November 13 and is running until November 28 with the final draws taking place November 29.

Kathy Richer, the manager of events, volunteers and administration at BGC (Boys and Girls Club) explains what it is all about.

"Festival of Trees was first brought to Airdrie about eight years ago. with collaboration from local businesses here in Airdrie, they sponsor the tree (BGC Airdrie provides them the tree), they decorate the tree and put some fabulous prizes on or under the tree."

Airdronians are able to buy $5 tickets for each tree of their choosing, and if they win, they get the tree and everything that goes along with it.

Local businesses are quick to jump on board with the fun for a good cause, this year the sponsors are:

  • Boulevard Home Inc. with Boutique of Airdrie

  •  BGC Airdrie Club Board

  • Dione Irwin Real Estate Team

  •  Trenton Pittner Group

  • Blue Grass Nursery

  • The Squiggly Pig

  • Budget Blinds with Sisters of Airdrie

  • Bow Valley Credit Union

  • Airdrie Renos

You can also view the trees in person at the local businesses that put them together said Richer.

"It's an online event, we just found more success that way as we have so many wonderful programs happening here that we don't want the trees to get damaged."

All money raised from the tickets and sponsorships will go right back into the BGC Airdrie programs, services and resources that do so much good for our community.

"It's a fantastic event. I'm glad that it's continued for the past eight years and hopefully, we can grow it bigger and better in the future."
