If you were out and about Sunday (November 23), did you by chance see Santa walking around Airdrie's streets?

On Saturday, Airdronian Chris Gourlie suited up as Santa and took an 8-9 kilometre walk around Airdrie spreading the holiday spirit.

According to Gourlie, it's all about putting a smile on people's faces.

"The expression on people's faces - with honks, waves and pictures - that's why I do this. I love bringing a little cheer to Airdronians for a couple of seconds."

Gourlie has been dressing up as Santa for over 25 years, visiting people and attending events, just recently he started walking around as Santa.

"I've been doing this since 2020, the start of COVID to try and bring cheer to the community."

This past Sunday was the first of his walks around Airdrie. Gourlie mentioned he will probably do a few more before Christmas in different neighbourhoods.

"I've had comments on my Facebook posts stating things like 'I've had a bad week and you made my day', thats what it's all about.

As of right now, Gourlie plans on going for another walk this Sunday.

"I just want to say thank you to the community for supporting me and helping me to bring cheer to everybody else."

Gourlie finished off by saying the world would be a better place if everybody was smiling.
